Drax 360 compliance manager ditches water sports in favour of running to help fund cancer research

A keen paddle boarder and kayaker is ditching her aquatic craft for the month and switching to a physical activity she doesn’t enjoy – all in aid of raising money to help fund cancer research.

Drax 360’s office and compliance manager Louise Andrews is running 40 miles in January with the aim of raising £1,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity – and is calling on colleagues and friends to help her reach her goal.

Louise, who has family and friends who have been affected by cancer, will be spotted near her home in Bedfordshire running with her black labrador Boo when the weather permits – or on a treadmill, without the dog, when the rain gets too much for her.

As well as wanting to help a charity which carries out ground-breaking research into cancer, Louise is also supporting a hospital whose fire alarm systems are maintained by Drax 360.

Louise explained: “Forty miles might not seem a lot, but I hate running, so this is a real test for me! My plan is to run at least two miles a day until it is smashed. I chose the Royal Marsden, which is a world-leading cancer centre as it is a much smaller charity and needs all the help we can give. It ensures its nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world.

“From funding state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, they will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.”

Louise’s previous charity fundraising activities have been much less arduous for someone who is pathologically averse to running. She organises Macmillan Coffee Mornings every year for the Pixmore Centre which is home to the Drax 360 office in Letchworth.

Louise can be sponsored via Go Fund Me, with all donations sent directly to the charity.
